I spent Thursday through Sunday atop Mt. Sequoyah at a Via de Cristo retreat. It was soooooooooo hard to “give up” my weekend. But the Holy Spirit has been nudging me to attend VDC for the last 18 months. We’re in the middle of home improvements and there is still so much to do. The summer goes by so fast and we only have a few weekends left! But I had signed up and paid in full so I was not backing out.
So I went. I spent my weekend with no golfing, no pool, and no micheladas! And at the end of the weekend, during our last worship, we were given the opportunity to share what the weekend had meant for us. I shared with the group that the closest I had ever felt to Christ was the summer I was a counselor at Camp Luther-Okasas, and that like our Logos program for youth, Via de Christo was like a mini-church camp . . . but for adults!
Then I started thinking about the other times I had had this feeling. The LYO Labor Day Gathering we attended last year – INCREDIBLE!!! Our PROTO team, our Contemporary Worship service, and even visiting and worshiping at Vintage Fellowship. I realized that it’s not the “camp” feeling — its the “Christian Community” feeling. And then I realized that these experiences provide a glimpse of what it will be like in Heaven — one giant, eternal, Christian community!!!
