Last night the kids and I went with my parents to see Hugo, based on Brian Selznick’s award winning novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret.

This is a movie lovers movie, about a movie lover, and by a movie lover.  It is also a story about finding your purpose and your place in the world, a must-see for everybody.

And if you’re taking my word for it — see it in 3D.

Ordinarily I’m of the opinion that 3D movies are banal, so we opted for the non-3D version.  That was our only mistake.

I should have known.

With Martin Scorsese directing, shooting in 3D was not a gimmick, but an artistic choice for telling the story.  One reviewer said that Hugo is the most beautiful live action film shot in 3D.

Might WILL have to see it a second time.
